Silktail takes flight!

It's been a whirlwind few months, but amidst the hustle of markets, festivals, and holiday prep, we're thrilled to share some exciting news: We're starting a new chapter with a fresh look and a new name that better reflects who we are today: Silktail!

For our loyal Waxwing Candle Co. customers, this might all come as a bit of a surprise. We've been busy behind the scenes crafting a new identity that embodies the essence of our mission—a focus on natural ingredients, a touch of elegance, and a commitment to creating beautiful, sustainable, high-quality products. We thoughtfully chose the name "Silktail" to pay homage to the company's original inspiration: the beautiful Cedar Waxwing. The Waxwing's genus is Bombycilla, a name bestowed upon them by French ornithologist Louis Pierre Vieillot in 1808, as a rough translation for "silk-tail," in reference to their silken plumage. When we learned this, we fell in love with the name Silktail. We also felt that evolving beyond our "Candle Co." designator would give us more latitude to offer other products in the future. We're excited to see what's next!

Everything you love about Waxwing will stay the same: same people, same bird, same commitment to sustainability—the only thing changing is the name. You can expect the same dedication to small-batch candles and melts, handcrafted with heart in our studio. But we've also got some exciting things in store, including our new 14.5 oz tall container candles in clear glass chimneys with rose gold lids (seen here). We're already offering these larger candles in a few select fragrances, just in time for the holiday season, with more to be added as we have time to build inventory. We're also offering our new hand-poured white beeswax owl and mushroom candles. More surprises to come in the months ahead!

You'll still see us as Waxwing Candle Co. at markets and festivals through the end of the year (2024). Rebranding, as we're finding out in real time, is an enormous amount of work! Please bear with us as we work to get everything all synced up. You'll notice our new logos, web addresses (silktailstudio.com and silktail.co), and email address (info@silktailstudio.com), but it will take some time to get all of our new labeling and packaging and signage switched over. It will also take time to redo all of our product photography and get it updated online. We don't want to be wasteful and throw out good boxes and labels, so, in the interim, you may receive some Waxwing Candle Co. labeled products in your order (vintage and cool now, right?).
